Let’s explore some of the common error first. Then eventually we will talk about how pros get these things done.

1) The Classic ‘Finally Got It’ :

We see this very often & it’s annoying. Seriously this type post will get a lot of hate & almost zero engagement. It was considered cool in like 2010 – not anymore. Now its all about mystery & keeping your followers or friends guessing which will encourage them to comment, like etc.

Figure: Don’t Do it – It’s Not 5S Anymore

That picture explains everything, don’t post like this with the most annoying caption of all time ”Finally Got It”. Doesn’t matter what the gadget – people don’t have time for this nowadays.

2) The “Holding & Capture” :

That’s the most desperate way to show off anything. Much worse than the box one. People already have seen it the tv, news, everything – they know the gadgets is out, stop holding it in your hands and sharing a picture of it as if you are presenting it to the press.

Figure: Don’t Do It Unless You Are A Reporter Or Something

Stay away from this. It’s not cool & sometimes its offensive. Gives you almost no engagement with lots of trolls. Don’t embarrass your self.

These should give you some idea what not to do. Following these age-old techniques are not worth it. Let’s find out what we are here for – the pro style.

How Pros Do It

You can’t be a pro within a day. You have to learn this & practice. As we told before – the best way to show off is to make it a bit distracting & mysterious. Instead of talking about the new gadget, talk about something else & show off that shiny gadget somehow. Following technique should give you a good idea of what we are talking about.

1) The Dummy :

That’s the best way to do it. Guarantee maximum engagement. If you are familiar with soccer – it’s just like the dummy. Where a player pretends to receive the ball but eventually leaves it for another player. Fools everyone & gets the work done.

Figure: Typical Dummy Technique

In the picture above you see a typical example of dummy method. Instead of posting a picture writing “Got my new Apple Watch” – you write “It was a good shift or something else“. Basically, you are talking about the workout you just finished – happens to have the brand new Apple Watch on your hand. This will ensure maximum engagement with lots of question – some will ask about the new watch, just ignore them don’t replay them immediately – just wait a couple of hours & then replay this will make the post reach even more people. Now, what if you want to show off a bunch of stuff you just bought at once. Look a the following picture – you should make the post about the least interesting thing in the picture.

Figure: That Book Was Good.

Here possible caption would be “Just completed the book – highly recommended.”. You get the point – that’s how to use the dummy technique. Very effective & a preferred method for all the pros. That picture is not perfect, to be honest, just make sure you put a bit more focus on the book – your gadgets don’ have to be on full display like that MacBook Pro. The less you show more it works perfectly & trust us people know how these new gadgets look from every angle.

2) Complaining About :

This works but not as effective as the dummy. Here you complain about a feature that doesn’t bother you at all – just a PR stunt. You include a photo or screenshot. People like to get involved in this type of discussion – so guarantees lots of comments.

A caption like “Miss that old feature” or “Already struggling with battery” etc. can be a good example.

Figure: iPhone X, Ah! Already Re-Charging

That picture is the perfect example. But careful there are some smart brains out there, so make it as random as possible.
